Meta ads for UK dealers & garages — is there still room?

Built 2026-07-05 from a 5,155-ad, 33-company, 12-month full-history Ad Library pull (status=ALL) + 3 sweeps + case studies · Canonical: work/meta-ads/meta-channel-findings-2026-07-05.json · Re-verified weekly by the Monday radar.

ROOM: YES — CONDITIONAL CONFIDENCE ~95% · slot verified empty 2026-07-04 · 3 independent detection methods SHELF LIFE: WEEKS · Superchat signal half-fired

Room: yes — an open slot inside a busy auction, with a short clock. No UK Meta advertiser combines an automotive-only identity, an AI customer-agent product and a paid-social motion — that exact ad is unrun. Go at test budget, under the pre-agreed kill rules.

Why go despite the base rate: the test is cheap (£30–50/day), the kill criteria are pre-agreed, and the alternative — waiting — hands the empty slot to the German wave. The risk is not that the market is crowded today. The risk is whatever killed Electronic Receptionist, and speed. Both are answerable: one phone call, and our own first four weeks of spend.

Holds because

  • The exact three-ingredient slot is empty across 12 months of history, 501 advertisers, 29 keywords.market-overview-2026-07-04.md · empty square
  • Germany, ~6 months ahead, proves the motion works: GetCarl rode Meta-only to 200–400+ dealers in ~7 months.case-studies/carl.md
  • The winning creative is known and cheap — 5 proven angle families, all phone-shot or Canva-grade; Trinity has ported 4 of 5.creatives-launch-set.md; angle-analyses-2026-07-05.json

  1. 1How does the UK look? The exact slot is empty (~95%); the auction around it is not — Book My Garage, Jodie, Cyberstaff, Superchat and telli are already bidding.
  2. 2How does Germany look? ~1 → 10+ advertisers in ~6 months; the UK sits where DE was in Jan 2026, one to two quarters behind.
  3. 3What provably works? Five angle families sustained 6+ months of spend; all phone-shot or Canva-grade; Trinity has ported 4 of 5.
  4. 4What dies? The median ad is dead in 13 days; 52.6% die within 2 weeks; the one UK automotive-only tester ran 67 ads in shrinking bursts, then went dark — cause unresolved.
  5. 5So is there room? Yes — conditional. An open slot in a busy auction with a weeks-long clock; go at test budget under the pre-agreed kill rules.

1The UK auction today — who is actually bidding

"Empty slot" is not "quiet auction." The exact three-ingredient square is vacant, but the surrounding attention is contested, the incumbents are provably silent, and one player tried it and left.

The slot matrix — the three-ingredient occupancy grid

Each ingredient exists separately. The combination never has, in 12 months of history. Only Trinity's proposed (dashed) row completes all three.

† Electronic Receptionist ran all three ingredients for 8 months (67 ads, Sep 2025–Apr 2026), then went dark 29 Apr 2026 — the slot's best evidence for AND against. GetCarl proves the combination works, but in Germany only.

THE EXACT SLOT

Empty

Nobody sells "the AI that answers a dealer's phone" to UK independents on Meta — the GetCarl-style combination. That is the precise ad Trinity is about to run.

ADJACENT BIDDERS

Contesting the same eyeballs

Book My Garage recruiting garage owners (52%+ of 306 ads). Jodie 437 ads, £49 anchor, ~4% garage-specific. Cyberstaff 235 ads, 141-day run still live. Superchat 2nd UK attempt (30 Jun). telli 3 GB ads, no auto angle yet.

PRICE PRESSURE

The anchor problem

A £9–29 floor since Apr 2026 (IONOS), Jodie at £49, ER's dead £97 — but GetCarl's DACH €199–499 proves a vertical-specific product clears the floor. See ladder below.

PROVEN PAID SILENCE

Checked, not missing

Moneypenny 0/88 ads mention automotive (while pushing property + care). ReceptionMate 0 ads. Visitor Chat no FB page. AutoConverse / MotorSales.AI / CitNOW / eDynamix 0. Silence is a checked fact, not absent data.

The price-anchor ladder

The pricing gravity a £149–299 pitch fights. GetCarl's DACH band sits above the axis as the counter-proof.

The adjacent bidders — per-advertiser evidence UK auction

Cyberstaff (UK, garage-only): 235 lifetime ads since 23 Oct 2025. Its "never-miss-a-call" flagship ran 32 ad instances / 1,132 cumulative paid days, longest single run 141 days, still active 2026-07-04. Zero of 235 ads ever mention "dealer"/"dealership"; garages reached only via a generic industries hub. run-length-winners-2026-07-05.json

Jodie (UK, garage-only): 437 lifetime ads since 1 Jul 2025 (radar first showed Nov 2025, corrected by the full-history pull). £49/mo entry (Basic of a £49/£99/£199/Enterprise-from-£500 ladder), 7-day trial. Mechanic-specific creative is only ~4% (19/437 ads); plumbers are the real business; no car-dealership sales page in any locale. tier-system-2026-07-04.json

Superchat (funded horizontal, 2nd UK attempt): 320+ lifetime ads. UK dealer-specific English creative launched 30 Jun 2026 — but a dealer-specific English WhatsApp ad already ran 20 Feb–16 Apr 2026 (55 days), paused, then returned. Live automotive page, EUR-only, no UK entity; of 279 ended ads every one sells WhatsApp, never voice. half-fired kill signal — §5

telli (Berlin, YC + Cherry Ventures, €3.6M pre-seed Apr 2026): actively running 3 GB Meta ads at €79–599/mo, generic B2C creative, zero automotive surface (no page, no dealer customers) as of 2026-07-05. Explicit promotion trigger armed for any automotive ad copy.

fonio (Vienna, funded): 817 ads; ran explicit "UK business owners" English creative ~20 Apr–27 Jun 2026 but zero automotive keywords across all 628 ended ads. Has a dormant, unadvertised car-dealership landing page — packaged, not paid-pushed.

Book My Garage (UK marketplace): 306 lifetime ads; garage-owner recruitment is 52%+ of history — supply-side acquisition (recruiting garages), not a customer-agent pitch. 42 ads / 1,213 paid days on one recruitment angle, still live.

Proven paid silence — the incumbents who buy zero Meta ads checked at page level

Moneypenny: 88 lifetime ads verified, 0 mention automotive across a full year — while running active Meta pushes for property and care. Its automotive AI Voice Receptionist (20 Feb 2026, 2,000+ automotive clients claimed) grows entirely off inbound/cross-sell/BD, never paid social. A deliberate choice.

ReceptionMate: verified page ("Automotive" category, 1,426 likes), 0 ads ever — holds true even including ended ads.

Visitor Chat: no Facebook page found at all. AutoConverse: one page, 0 ads. MotorSales.AI: no page. eDynamix: one page, 0 ads. The entire mapped UK incumbent set grows without this channel — the dealer-side voice is unclaimed.

2The German mirror — the forecast

Not analogy — the same product category, same channel, ~6 months ahead. Germany is the clock: it shows how fast an empty slot fills and what the winner's playbook looked like.

Y-axis is a count of visible advertisers, not spend. The 6 DE vendors with an Autohaus page but no current Meta ads are the hollow point at 10+.

GetCarl — the existence proof

Meta-only acquisition: 319 Meta ads vs exactly 1 Google ad (policy-removed). First ad 27 Oct 2025 — ~6 weeks BEFORE the 9 Dec 2025 GmbH incorporation. 0 → 200+ (site) / 400+ (ad copy) dealers in ~7 months; seven-figure round Jun 2026. Pricing €199/299/499 by tier.

Company-claimed, unaudited — the 200-vs-400 gap is a 2× self-disagreement; the "4.9 at 200+ reviews" badge traces to no external review platform. case-studies/carl.md

fonio — the scale ceiling & CAC discipline

817 ads, 193 started in Apr 2026 alone; €17M/€14.6M seed at ~€120–140M (20VC, Harry Stebbings, 9 Jun 2026). Founder-stated CAC cap ~€250 held below a €300 entry deposit. 0 → 7,000+ in ~21 months. Zero automotive creative in 628 ended ads = packaged-but-dormant vertical.

Unaudited — live site claims 9,500+, June press release 7,000+, trackers 6,000–7,500. case-studies/fonio.md

What DE teaches late entrants — channel-first is an arbitrage, not a mechanism. Jodie ran the "first-in-vertical on Meta" playbook for 8–12 months in the UK garage lane and produced a shallow £49 product with no leadership. In the US, AutoLeap launched "AIR" ($99/mo, Apr 2026) inside its ~15,000-shop install base — the standalone small-shop window closed from inside the rails. The red-team verdict the analysis sides with: being first on Meta does not compound into a moat without integration depth.

3What provably works — five angle families, one production tier

Run length = the advertiser kept paying, not conversion data — the caveat travels with every bar. Which messages sustained 6+ months of spend, what they cost to make, and that Trinity has already ported 4 of 5.

fonio: public demo number + call-me-back widget = 500–600 test calls/day; a €300 entry deposit throttles demand and funds acquisition; no free trial, risk reversal is a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Dominant risk-reversal = free-trial-no-card: Cyberstaff 7-day, Audelia 14-day, Jodie 7-day + 50% off first month.

What Superchat wins with instead deliberately not ported

Superchat's own proven family is a horizontal message-channel argument ("nobody reads email anymore, use WhatsApp"), not missed-calls: top angle 43 ads / 1,761 cumulative paid days, plus WhatsApp-vs-email stat angles (911, 775, 587, 563, 511 days across variants).

None of this is in Trinity's launch set, which is entirely voice/call-first. Superchat's automotive ads sell WhatsApp only, never voice — a structural gap Trinity's voice-first wedge exploits.

4What fails — the base rate and the one body on the ground

The honest denominator: most creative dies fast, automotive dies faster — and the one automotive-only UK precedent quit after 8 months, cause unresolved.

THE ONE BODY ON THE GROUND

UK, automotive-only, £97/mo advertised but +22p/min metered + exit-fee lock-in (e.g. £300 discount = £300 exit fee) + a mandatory "resolution call" before cancelling; refunds "not guaranteed." 67 ads Sep 2025–Apr 2026; 0 active since 29 Apr 2026; also ran a 2-ad white-label reseller pitch to garage-software vendors (Jan 2026).

50 Sep–Oct'25 8 Jan'26 6 Feb'26 3 Apr'26 dark — 0 active as of 2026-07-04 2-ad white-label pitch, alongside

Monotonic 50 → 8 → 6 → 3 shrinkage is the CAC-failure hypothesis made visible — but the pattern is consistent with, not proof of, that story.

Hypothesis (a) — CAC failure

Shrinking bursts = shrinking budgets, consistent with a one-person operation that can't sustain spend against £97/mo. Bootstrap math: €500–1,500/mo × ~€200/meeting × 15–30% close ≈ 0.5–2 customers/mo.

Hypothesis (b) — white-label pivot

A deliberate move to a B2B2B reseller motion via garage-software vendors' distribution. Weakened: the white-label campaign ran alongside, not instead of, direct-to-garage ads (only 2 ads) — and total volume kept shrinking after it.

No direct evidence resolves this Standing action from the launch doc: probe why before budget passes test level.

False positives ruled out by name so they can't ambush the read later: praxipal = a live German medical-practice receptionist (never automotive, never quit); HiOffice = a recruitment agency (100% job-listing ads); Autohaus Nix GmbH = an actual Toyota dealership (a customer, not a competitor). Audelia is NOT "a vertical that never got spend" — it is a currently-active hard-testing campaign; that earlier framing was wrong.

Appendix — methodology, caveats & source ledger

Audit every number without cluttering the argument: what the Ad Library can and cannot prove, the corrections we caught ourselves making, and the file-level source map.

Corrections we caught ourselves making what we got wrong first
  • The initial live-only sweep missed Electronic Receptionist's ended ads — it read "0 active ads" as "no paid-channel evidence." The full-history (status=ALL) re-run surfaced all 67. Any Ad Library check that excludes ended ads systematically misses dead campaigns.
  • Jodie's start date corrected Nov 2025 → Jul 2025 by the full-history pull (12 months uninterrupted, not 8).
  • The US-pack impostor pages were purged: Car Wars, Flai, Toma, Impel, Pam AI, Diago — every associated page_id is marked source="candidate" in the manifest, never "confirmed." This dataset proves nothing about them either way.
  • Superchat's automotive push was not brand-new on 30 Jun 2026 — a dealer-specific English ad already ran Feb–Apr 2026 (second attempt, not first).
What this data cannot tell us honest limits
  • No spend / CPM / reach / conversion data. The Ad Library API returns creative volume and duration only (reach is null). Every "performance" number here is a run-length proxy, not a CTR, CPA or budget.
  • Run length is a spend proxy. A "91-ad" angle is one fixed body re-served across N DCO permutations, not 91 independently tested creatives.
  • ~12-month DSA retention floor. Anything a company ran and fully rotated off before ~Jul 2025 is invisible even in the full-history pull.
  • ER cause-of-death unknown until someone rings them. The auto-flavoured split is keyword-computed — directional, not precise. 2 of 12 visual passes were inferred, not frame-verified (MCP media-tool errors, flagged).
  • The auction's actual price for OUR audience is unknowable until our own first £500 of spend. The ~€200/meeting figure is second-hand, cross-vertical (a friend's test, different vertical) — Trinity has zero first-party channel data.
  • All vendor traction is company-claimed and unaudited: GetCarl 200 vs 400 (2× gap), fonio 7,000 vs 9,500.
